“Lawyers Without Rights” Book & Exhibit Discussion

Lawyers Without Rights: The Fate of Jewish Lawyers in Berlin after 1933 DISCUSSION

In late 2011, the German Federal Bar asked the American Bar Association for assistance to introduce to the nation’s capital a compelling exhibit of 25 panels depicting the humiliation, degradation and purge from the German legal profession of roughly 5,000 lawyers simply because they had Jewish ancestry. Since the Fall of 2012, more than 50 U.S. venues have hosted the exhibit. Host venues have included federal courthouses and state supreme courts, public libraries, law schools, Jewish community centers, synagogues and private venues. The exhibit will be on display in the 3rd Floor Atrium Montgomery County Circuit Court from September 16-20, 2024.

November of 2018 saw the release of the English translation of the book, Lawyers Without Rights: The Fate of Jewish Lawyers in Berlin after 1933, This book underscores an interest in passing on to future generations the horrors of the Holocaust as well as fostering a better public understanding of the rule of law.

On the evening of Thursday, September 19, 2024, Annette Weerth, Legal Advisor to the Embassy of the Federal Republic of Germany, will join us in Courtroom 3A of the Circuit Court for Mongomery County to discuss the exhibit. In addition, Pennsylvania Supreme Court Justice David N. Wecht will join us by Zoom link to discuss the substance of the book.

We will convene at the 3rd Floor Atrium at 5:30 p.m. for appetizers and beverages. The program will begin at 6:15 p.m. This promises to be an important and thought-provoking event. All are encouraged to attend. We will provide a Zoom link for the discussion by Justice Wecht for those unable to attend in person.
